SharePoint 2007 Automatically Generated Hyperlinks stopping at "
Hi there, In any Column involving text, SharePoint automatically identifies web addresses and creates a hyperlink. We find this to be a VERY useful feature in not only SharePoint but all Office products. However, when the address involves a double quote (") the hyperlink stops short resulting an erroneous link. e.g. http://intranet/digitalphotos/Supporting%20Webpages/photo_search_results_thumbnails.aspx/Results.aspx?k="1321-2-115"&s=Photos In the case above, the automatically generated hyperlink stops after the equals (=) sign. The web address and hyperlink is correctly interpreted in Word and Excel and indeed in this Forum application. Is there any setting in SharePoint that will address this issue?? If the double quotes are replaced with single ones, then the hyperlink works correctly, but SharePoint 2007 Search interprets 1321-2-155 as three keywords instead of one. Thank you for your interest and support. Ian Hearnes

No there is nothing out of the box that will allow you to accomplish this however you could write a custom wrapper and break the out of the box features.Kris Wagner, MVP, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://www.sharepointkris.com/blog

Hi, I think the behavior is by design. If you want to display a hyperlink in a column, you can set the data type of the column as multiple lines of text or hyperlink. It will auto consider the text as hyperlink. Thanks for your understanding. Hi Xue-Mei Chang, Currently the text is created in a Text Calculated Column (based on an entry in another Column). I may be able to use Workflow to copy the calculated text (Hyperlink) to a Hyperlink Column. I'll give it a try soon. Thank you for your comment! Ian HearnesIan Hearnes

Thanks for your comment Kris Wagner, I'll have to read up on Custom Wrappers. They are a new concept to me. Thanks again, Ian HearnesIan Hearnes

No problem, it would take me some work but I could get in touch with the developer I worked with a while back if you need that. Feel free to reach me off line at kriswagner01 at gmail.comKris Wagner, MVP, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://www.sharepointkris.com/blog

Hi Xue-Mei Chang, I was able to use Workflow to 'Build a Dynamic String' based upon another column and 'Set Field' to a HyperLink Field. In this way I could even add a Description to the Hyperlink which tidied up our Views no end. A very good outcome, Thank you, Ian HearnesIan Hearnes
